and Allah said "And proclaim the pilgramage among men; they will come to thee on foot and on every kind of camel. Lean on account of Journeys through deep and distant mountain highways" Surah 22 ~ Al Hajj Part 27
Ask yourself one simple question
"Did Allah's Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) do "this" or Not? (With "this" being anything from an action to a deed) according to our guide ~ The Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), which in his last sermon he very clearily asked us all to follow
If Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) did - Do
If Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) didn't - Don't
Allah said in the Quran “This day, I have perfected your religion for you, and completed My Favour upon you, and I have chosen for you Islam as your religion” [The Table Spread ~ Surah Al-Ma'idah Chapter 5 Part 3]
Allah also said "O People of the book! Exceed not in your religion, the bounds (of what is proper) Trespassing beyond the truth, nor follow the vain desires of people who went wrong in times gone by. They misled many and strayed (themselves) from the even way" [The Table Spread ~ Surah Al-Ma'idah Chapter 5 Part 77]
We are also clear on the fact that we are not allowed to remove nor add anything, then the question is:
Can anything be more clear and where does the desire to either add or remove come from?
Admittedly there are things that we are all guilty of, which are done in ignorance ~ knowingly or unknowingly, openly or hidden or because our parents or their parents practiced them. As revealed many times in the Quran and The Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) ~ Allah forgives those who repent upon being corrected but curses to eternity those who ignore the corrections and fail to ask for Allah's forgiveness, for Allah is oft forgiving and merciful.
Just because our forebearers practiced some action or deed in ignorance relating to Islam, and we now find that it was not correct or it was started as a result of some traditional or cultural event. The fact still makes the act incorrect than like our Prophet was told it is up to each one of us to open our hearts, minds and ears and correct our actions rather than carry on with something that may have been passed on by our forebearers in ignorance, ask for Allah's forgiveness, for Allah is oft forgiving and merciful.
"Huwallaziii anzala alaykal Kitaaba minhu aayaatum muhkamaatun hunna ummul-kitaabi wa 'ukharu mutashaabihaat. Fa'ammal lazina fi quluubihim zay-gun-fayattabiuuna maa tashaabaha minhubtigaa al fitnati, wabtigaa-a'ta-wiilahuu ilallaah. War-raasikuuna fil ilmi yaquuluuna aamannaa bihii kullummin indi Rabbinna; wa maa yazzakkaru illaa ulul-albaab"
Surah 3 ~ Al-Imraan part 7
"He it is, Who has revealed on to thee (Muhammad)the scripture where in are clear revelations. In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning) They are the foundation of the book; others are not of well established meaning (for only Allah knows their essences). But in those in whose heart is perversity follow the part there of that is not of well established meaning seeking discord or dissension and searching for its hidden meanings! But no one knows its true meaning except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord" None will grasp the message except men of understanding"
