and Allah said "And proclaim the pilgramage among men; they will come to thee on foot and on every kind of camel. Lean on account of Journeys through deep and distant mountain highways" Surah 22 ~ Al Hajj Part 27
Fil - the elephant
Revealed in Makkah
Bismillah arak maan nira heem, Alhamdhulillahi Rabil Alamin; arak maan nira heem
Alam tara khayfa fa-ala rabuka bi-As-Habil-Fil?
Alam yaj-al khayda hum fii tazlil?
Wa arsala alahim tayran abaabiil
Tarmihim bi-hijaartim min siijiil
Faja-alahum ka-asfim ma kuul
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the owners of the elephant?
Did he not make their treacherous plans go astray?
and sent against them flights of birds
Striking them with stones of baked clay
Then did he make them like a field of stalks and straw devoured
This Surah relates to an event that occured in the year Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born. Around about 570 A.C. Yemen was under the control of Abyssinians (devoute Christians) who had driven out the Jewish Himyarite rulers. Abrahah Ashram was the Governor and Viceroy, who was intoxicated with power and fired with fanaticism. He led a huge army on elephants with the intention to destroy the Ka'bah. He was defeated by a miracle as no defence was offered by the custodians of the Ka'bah ~ the Quraysh as the oncoming army was too big and strong. Flights of birds appeared from nowhere showering the army with stones destroying them to a single man.
